These rocks are painted to honor our veterans from all wars. All of the rocks are beautiful to see but there is one main rock which is located just southwest of Des Moines IA. This rock is repainted every year with something different except for the helicopter on the east side of it. This helicopter has ashes from a fallen soldier in the paint so it will be left on the rock. There are several rocks around Iowa and the goal is to have one in every county, and this may be done already but not sure on that. These are free to go see and only the main rock has a donation box by it as far as I know. Hope everyone enjoys these rocks as much as my group of riders do, we ride up and see at least 5 rocks each year on Labor day weekend.
